Baby alpaca fiber has been considered a treasure of the Andes mountains for 6000 years. The alpaca is a socio-economic activity of great importance to Andean populations of Peru, producing commercially valuable fiber. They are the only animals that can be used commercially in the highlands because they are physiologically adapted to places where forage is limited.
